About the artist

I still have the pinch pot I made in art class as a kid but I didn’t take a proper pottery class until I was in my 30s. In retrospect it’s obvious I’d fall in love with it, but it took years to occur to me that making pots was something I could do, even as I’d been buying pottery for decades. I jumped straight into wheel throwing and instantly recalled the joy of playing in the mud like I did as a kid. If I can make a mess with my hands I’m all in. By the end of that first class I knew I was going to be making pots for a long, long time.

Ceramics are my favorite souvenirs: a pitcher from a trip to French wine country, vases from Iceland, a bowl from an artist in Wisconsin—beautiful, unique objects that I use in my home and persist long after I’ve tossed the souvenir magnet or t-shirt. These objects have the power to evoke memories of great trips and beautiful places. Even after so many years, I’m still delighted to see that bowl, a deep glossy maroon, holding apples on my counter.

Through my work, I hope to share the joy of making, the delight of spying a ceramics shop, the promise of all the cool things inside, and the excited satisfaction of holding an item that feels perfect in your hands, something beautiful that you know will be with you for a long, long time.
